| James D. Aro, CADCIII, CCSII dedicated his life — personally and professionally — to helping people recover from Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA). Jim founded Aro Counseling Centers, Inc. in 1990 and grew it to thirteen locations in southern Wisconsin. Jim possessed a pioneering spirit and never settled for the status quo. His commitment to a healthy Wisconsin was demonstrated through his leadership as a member of several boards of directors and as an advisor to many different community agencies. |
| In 2005, the Wisconsin Association of AODA posthumously conferred on Jim Aro the President′s Award; and also established the Jim Aro Scholarship, given to "an outstanding newcomer AODA counselor in the first five years of practice". In his eulogy to Jim, the Association′s President remarked: "Jim had the ability to share himself in a caring and empathetic manner. When you talked to him, you knew he was there with you. He helped many people in need on a personal basis, and through his business, he helped an even larger number of people into recovery. Jim dedicated his life to assuring that addiction treatment was delivered with dignity and respect... Few have lived their lives with such purpose and conviction as Jim. His integrity, friendship and his belief in ′the greater good′ will always be cherished." |
